A two-alarm fire Friday afternoon heavily damaged a portion of The Christmas Mouse in Nags Head.

The rear section of the two-story structure at 2401 South Croatan Highway was fully involved. The fire was reported at 2:15 p.m.

Fire departments from Southern Shores to Stumpy Point were dispatched to either respond to the scene, or provide back-up coverage elsewhere.

The small pine thicket to the north of the building had also caught on fire.

Westbound (north) traffic on U.S. 158 was being rerouted to Memorial Avenue and Virginia Dare Trail to avoid the scene between Admiral and Driftwood. Wrightsville Avenue is closed to traffic in the same area.

Eastbound (south) lanes of U.S. 158 remained open, but traffic was crawling through the area, and police were asking that sightseers stay away.

This is breaking news, check back here for more information as it becomes available.
